Mom’s Birthday Dinner at Capital Seafood

We are celebrating another birthday with mom tonight. Well, it has been delayed since I was out of town. Our usual is to have a big meal, eat cake, and give her the red packets; same every year as long as we can remember. We used to rag our brains, trying to figure out perfect birthday presents, but never quit get it right. So now, we just give her the red packets, so much easier. She can get whatever she wants.

Mom is not big on eating western food. She enjoys it if someone else orders for her. But she can never make up her mind what she wants. We decided since Capital Seafood Group opened a new restaurant in Irvine, we will just give it a try.

The décor is much nicer than most Chinese restaurants. They even have a full bar on the side and late night dining, definitely catering to a younger crowd than traditional Asians. When it comes to ordering, Tom’s only constraint is “nothing funny”. Now the term “funny” is relative, isn’t it? Basically, he said no jelly fish, no unusual body parts… We didn’t pull one on him this meal. We had these:
  • Stir Fried Japanese Wild Mushrooms with Tofu
  • Steamed Live Shrimps
  • French Style Filet Mignon
  • House Special Scallops
  • Poached Pea Leaf with Garlic Sauce
We did pretty well at the end, nothing to take home. That is a success in itself! The food is very tasty and we will eat here again. I love the wild mushrooms with tofu dish the best, out of the ones we ordered. Then it was time for the cake and Kodak moments.

P.S. I scrapbooked this here.
