The self tour was educational. The exhibits basically displayed his whole life on the wall, from young, to his stardom, and later as governor and president. They also showed clips from when he got shot. Tom is actually more interested in the history than I was.
Finally, we arrived at the Air Force One area. Ok, the plane looks normal, except for the marker “United State of America”. This particular plane was retired in 2001, and had been in serviced for the last 28 years for past 7 presidents (including the 2nd Bush). The plane interior has been restoring to Regan’s years. Honestly speaking, I wasn’t impressed at all. It seems old and nothing fancy. I don’t think it is even at par with a corporate jet. Granted, we are talking about the 80’s, 20 years ago. Oh maybe this is considered as really plush during that generation. I was barely in college. No photo is allowed inside the plane, so nothing to show you guys here. And this one of us in front of the US seal, well, there was this much older gentleman, insisting on taking pictures for us. And it would be impolite to turn him down.
Coincidentally, on the day of our visit, the museum was busy setting up a banquet for the Congressional Medal of Honor. We are talking about lots of people, probably between 500-1000, with both levels filled with tables. The musicians were doing rehearsal when we wandered around. It was a nice surprise to see. When we left, a few guests were starting to arrive in their formal evening attire. Tom and I were surprise with the low security monitoring.
