I love tea; any kind of tea, probably a bit more toward Asian ones than Western one. I have a wide variety in the pantry, plus my continuous experiencing while aboard. I certainly wouldn’t want to pass up an opportunity to “tea” with my lady friends.
I have not seen some of these girls in ages; Sandra and Linda since my birthday party last year, Angie and Diane since the wedding, Susan since Diane’s wedding, and meeting the other two ladies (Pilar and Dorothy) for the first time. Sandra had moved away to D.C. so it isn’t often she returns to CA for a visit. I was away on business when she visited last. I couldn’t miss it again this time. Of course, there’s first time meeting Angie’s babe, Joseph….aka “little J” (his Daddy is big J) in my book.
We decided to host the event in San Juan Capistrano (SJC) rather than our normal pick for Laguna Beach. And SJC is a delightful little town; about 30 minutes drive south of Irvine. There is the old mission, the antiques shops, the outdoor restaurants and little retail shops along the old streets, next to the train station. Very very charming!
Sandra settled on the Los Rios Tea House for our brunch/luncheon. What a wonderful little tea house. There is a gift shop as you enter the Tea House. We chose to sit outside, as the weather was sunny and warm. While sipping my Cream of Earl Gray, we waited for the other to show up. The tea had a touch of toffee in it, and that was the reason for the “Cream” part of the tea. I always take my tea black; no sugar, no cream. I am not fond of “sweet” tea, hot or cold.
There is this little quote in the bathroom. "A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water." How fitting...
They have a nice menu for a tea house, more than the standard selection of soup, salad, scones, etc. I ordered the Salmon Benedict. It is made of fresh salmon filet, not smoked salmon. The portion is good size and is delicious. None of us left with any desire for dessert. Some of the other dishes we ordered are “The Princes Lost Bread”, “Prime Rib and Eggs”, and “Garden Frittata”. They all looked really tasty.
Finally, big J brought little J back for a round of baby passing, kissing, hugging…well, the boys didn’t want to stay with all of us when they first arrived with Angie. Afterward, we worked off our lunch with a stroll through the shops. I was good, just window shopped with my camera lens, not actually purchasing anything.
So now, I want to do another tea, with a beautiful HAT this time!!!
