CKC Pasadena

I was supposed to be joining Yvette for the CKC Pasadena event on Saturday. Well, I need to get on a flight, so I decided if I can travel on the weekend for business, I should be able to take the Friday off and do what I originally plan for my Saturday.

CKC stands for Creative Keepsake Convention, yes, a scrapbooking convention; basically, classes and vendor fair for more stash enhancement. Honestly, since I am not a beginner, I go to classes just to check out the trends and motivation to actually get some scrapbooking done. If I don’t set time aside for it, I don’t seem to get much done these days.

The first time I went to a CKC sponsor event was with Edyta last year, in Houston. Yes, in Houston. I was on business to Texas City there. I didn’t realize until that week. I talked Edyta into joining me for an evening crop since she scrapbooks too!!! We scrapped and caught up at the same time. Pretty cool.

This time, I went by myself. I wasn’t going to talk anyone out of work to go with me!!! I didn’t pre-register as I wasn’t 100% certain I want to do this by myself. It’s not as fun. I went anyway; figure this is the first time CKC chose a nearby enough location without me flying around. And at this economy, who knows if they would return next year! I took two classes; all are 12” x 12” layouts. I didn’t want to do anymore mini album, yeah, got a pile at home.

  1. A Taste of Scraptique Part Deux – by Scraptique, Inc. This is a monthly kit club. We did three 2-pages layout. Not too bad. Of course, with only 1.5 hour, we just got the basic down. Fine with me, since I will most likely add my personal touch later.
  2. 2009 Latest & Greatest with Basic Grey – by embellish IT! I love Basic Grey pattern papers. And this company (page kit) did a good job on using the BG products. Nice simple designs that I can use. So it was a good choice.

Since I haven’t actually finished the pages, I won’t post them now. I learned from attending other convention that two classes in a day is good enough. A third one would be the max. Since I wanted to spend time in the vendor fair, thinking they would have make n’ takes, and hoping to avoid the infamous LA traffic (especially for a Friday afternoon), I was good with only two classes. Wrong. Nothing at all, I finally found the SEI booth. And they had a nice 2 pages spread for $4. Not bad, at least it is better than standing in long line for something so so. SEI products are good too. Don't get me wrong, I still did some damage to the credit cards.

Bottom line, I had more fun than I expected. But it would certainly be better if I have someone to go together. Definitely will go back again if they return next year. Besides, they picked a wonderful city to be in. Pasadena is charming. The picture below is the Pasadena Convention Center, beautiful even in the midst of our June groom.
