We came back to Brisbane city about mid day. I was tired. I have been walking this whole weekend non stop. In Noosa, to get down to the beach and Hasting Street from our hotel, it is a 15-minutes walk each way. Going is not a problem, coming back is all uphill. The hotel sits on top of the hill. And don’t forget the 95% humidity.
In Brisbane city, I chose not to have a car in the city, so every time I want to buy some grocer or water, I must walk and carry them myself. The store is not that far, about 15 minutes walk each way to go to the grocery. It is not too bad if you only do it once a while, but because you can only carry so much with your hands, I end up having to do this daily. Each trip, I get couple bottles of 1-liter water and some breakfast for next morning. When I get off work; all has been consumed and this becomes my nightly routine after dinner!!! By now, I gave up on the heel sandals. I am mostly on my Teva and exercise sneakers after work. It is good for the body. Imagine if you don’t have your car for the grocery store, every time you need something to eat or drink, you have to spend energy before you can consume it. Not a bad idea for our obese US population.
After a bit of rest, we went across the river on foot to South Bank. Just like our typical celebration, there are free concerts, markets, street musicians, etc. There is a street beach here, basically, a man made beach for the kiddies. It was full of big kids and small kids. The man made structure walkway reminds me of the fence used in Jurassic Park to keep the dinosaurs away.
I strolled around for couple hours, trying to wait for the firework, but it is not on until 7:30pm. By 5:30pm or so, I was ready to cool off in the air condition hotel room. And by 8:30pm, I was already in bed, fast to sleep. I think the exciting weekend and the heat did me in.
Anyway, here are some photos of the Australian Day celebration for your enjoyment.
