Bistro Miyoda & Sushi Ichiriki

I felt like I should know my neighborhood better than I do now; after all, I have been “living on & off” in the south bay area for ~3 years now, counting the time before marriage.

We don’t eat out often at all. Tom is not hungry most of the time. In fact, it is one of the reasons he needs to check in with the doctor. And since I travel and eat out so much, I just want some home cooking when I am home.

So … when we do have family or company in town, we are really not sure where to take them. I figure I need to scout out a bit.

My family prefers Asian cuisine over western one. High on the list is Japanese food. So I went to check out this restaurant, Bistro Miyoda & Sushi Ichiriki. It is located in a strip mall, nothing fancy. In fact, the interior is definitely not impressive at all. I was early for the lunch crowd. The menu is a mix of Japanese with a bit of Hawaiian influence. I ordered a bowl of tuna poki, wow, there were plenty of fish on it. And it was yummy.

But before that, the chef’s complimentary offering was a single baked oyster. Not really sure what was on it, but probably lots of cream and mayo, typical of Japanese creation. It was good, not sure if I would order it though….I didn’t actually find the oyster…..and I love my oyster fresh on the half shell with just a squeeze of lemon, this was over done for me. Nevertheless, it was good.
