Gardens of Cranbrook

Today we fitted in a quick visit to Cranbrook before I headed back to the airport for my short flight to Chicago. Cranbrook House, designed by noted Detroit architect Albert Kahn in 1908, is the oldest of metropolitan Detroit's historic manors. The 40 acres of gardens that surround Cranbrook House includes the symmetrical Sunken Garden, the aromatic herbaceous garden, and the casual bog garden. Plenty of sculpture, fountains and architectural interests enhance the setting, and a lake stretching out beyond the fieldstone walls, you would think you are the little Alice in Wonderland.

I didn’t quite know what to expect, so I was in my “easy stretching” outfit. I would fit the setting better with pretty flowery skirt and a big rim hat. Maybe next time, we can bring a picnic basket and have our own tea in this lost era surrounding.

So little time, so many things to do. It was such a short visit. But isn't it the short visit that keep any relationship going until the next long break? Until next time...
