A Strong Driver…

That is the comment from my instructor in my IL defensive driving course. No, neither I get a ticket nor any personal reason to do this. But it is one thing I must do for my job performance evaluation. Since my boss is up north, I actually had to fly in to take this 8 hours company provided course. We had a 2.5 hours in-class session, and then followed with actual driving. There were 5 students in total. It turned out to be better than I expected. I did pick up some good points from the class.

  • Following distance, 4 seconds. I think during CA rush hour traffic, this would fit 4 cars in this length…

  • No creeping at intersection. Just in case the guy behind you thought you are finally moving, and step on the gas to smash into you.

  • Avoid backing up when possible, that is, do a pull-through parking instead. Of course, this could go against some other guidelines where it is preferred to back into a parking slot for ease of exit during emergency.

I should check to see if I would qualify for further deduction on my auto insurance as a result of this class. Anyway, it is a good time to contact the insurance agent for this, plus including the engagement ring in my home owner insurance. Oh, so many details.
