The saying “Be careful of what you ask for, you might just get it”; I would change it to “Be very specific of what you ask for, as you might just get it”.
Have you heard of the book “The Secret”? It described the power of defining your wishes to the universe and let the universe works its magic and delivers your wishes to you. I got an audio version of it from Jenn last year. Back then, I was at a lower point of my personal life even though my career is going well and I have a loving circle of friends and family. I didn’t have a significant other. And I had a medical problem at the time which I thought I may not be able to ever have a child. After I listened to the audio book, I was thinking what the heck! It is not like I never thought about what I want. I do all the time. But I never actually write my wishes down. Oh, why not just give it a try. So I wrote down what I want in a man, the specific details, and how I want my relationship with him to be. Well, I have to say Tom met most of them. Next, I wrote down “I want to marry the father of my child.” Well, I think it is clear enough, wouldn’t you? Look at the picture!!!
On August 26, while away in Houston on a business trip, I decided to take a home pregnancy test as I was 2 weeks late in my cycle then. I didn’t think much of it because first, both Tom & I are in the “advance maternity” group, I was never regular. And we were not actively trying. We are still enjoying our being engaged status. Anyway, when I got the result, I read the box instruction repeatedly, just to make sure I truly understand the result. Well, it was staring back at me being “positive”. Yes, I am pregnant. I was in a total daze that day at work. Wow, what does this mean to my life?
Now I realize I neither define a timeline nor the sequence of the events. In stead of asking to marry the father of my child, I should have asked for something along the line “I want to have a child with my husband”. That way, the pregnancy would happen AFTER the wedding, not before!!! Yes, I must be very specific in the future when I ask for something to the universe.
I can’t really complain. I am getting what I want and wish for.
