Andrea asked me why I didn’t include some really nice dining China in my registry. So I thought I would share this story here too.
The first set I ever purchased is by Royal Wessex, the pattern is called LINEN FLEURY (the green ones in the picture). I have a complete setting for 8 (dinner plate, salad plate, soup bowl, & mug) + 7 chop plates, only missing one when I purchased it. It will be difficult to find the missing one since I have this for so long, 15+ years. But I don't use the chop plates much anyway so it will just stay missing for the time being. I have use this as my normal daily set for the last 15 years, total dishwasher & microwave safe, and I am very lucky that it hasn't been broken at all.
When I went to UK with Fran & Jaye Lynn eons ago, we visited the Wedgwood factory. I totally fell in love at first sight with this pattern and the blue color. The name is FLORENTINE-TURQUOISE, W2714. I couldn’t resist and bought 4 Octagonal dishes. I think I was paying over 20 British pounds for each dish back then. Yes, it was painful then. Looking back, I wish I had purchased more. The last time I looked on ebay and the Replacements Company, it is well over $200 each dish if you can find one. Ouch!
Since then, I have added 4 salad plates and 4 bread & butter plates to this collection. When I did this, I was thinking the 4 Octagonal dishes will be the dinner plates. I figure, eventually, I will add some other pieces, like the footed cream soup and saucer set, square salad plate to use as dessert plate, but any addition is expensive at this point. So they have to be slowly done!!! If you want to see the collection list from Replacements, here is the link.
Recently, within the last year, I bought a modern set of china by Red Vanilla as everyday usage. I wanted a contemporary white for me to mix and match. I have the Coupe style dinner & side plate. I also found a nice match for the bowl, didn't want it to be totally coordinating anyway. I want to be able to inject colors whenever I want.
Of course, there are other miscellaneous pieces that I can’t resist to get at times. But now, I would say I am a bit smarter, I would get more than just dinner plates! As you can see, I am very happy with my current possessions. Yes, I can be in love with dishes. Crazy, isn’t it!!!
