Wedding Registry

A few friends had already inquired about our wedding registry a while back. I didn’t have time to do that until this past week, after we sent out the invitations and getting most things set up for the wedding first. This turns out to be more difficult than I expected. I suppose this is a downside or upside for getting married late in our life, depending on one’s view!

I believe the concept is to set up the newly wedded couple with the necessary household items for their life together. In my case, my current life is already set up very well. This is mainly because I like to “housekeep”. I think this term is a bit out of style these days. But it happens to be what I love. Oh, I can’t say much about Tom’s. Take a look at his kitchen and you will be politely silent.

Anyway, here is the story on our registry.

I love to cook. This means I had acquired lots of cooking related items. For this registry list, I actually have to go through my kitchen cabinets and pantry to see what I don’t have. I was quite amused to find out that there are only a handful items that I don’t possess and want. I have pretty much all the kitchen appliances I want such as the stand mixer, the food processor, toaster, toaster oven, rice cooker, water boiler, electric grill, electric Chinese hot pot, etc. There are a few things that I had acquired and haven’t even used (oh, we all do). This includes the deep fryers (yes, with a “s”), the waffle maker, the vacuum food sealer, a pasta maker attachment to the stand mixer, even a meat grinder, etc. Of course, I am not short on cookware or bakeware either! Imagine, beside the entire set of Caphalon standard pots and pans, I have a pallela pan, a cast iron Dutch oven, a cast iron grill top which I proudly claim to have seasoned myself. As for the bakeware, I have a good selection of aluminum trays and pans; ok, perhaps I haven’t completely switched them over to the new technology of using silicone. As for China sets, gosh, let’s say it this way, I have been throwing gatherings with matching real bone China dishes and utensils!

I enjoy decorating my home. This means I am not short on decorative pillows & throws. I am not short on bed linen sets. I have 3 bathrooms in my home now, so I am also not short on bath linen! The only thing I am really short is a new house and wall space; that is entirely different story with the pathetic stock market today. And forget about the vacuum cleaner and clothes irons. After we get married, we together will have 3 vacuums and 2 irons. Besides, that is really for light touch up. We will continue to schedule for professional housekeeping (oh, I definitely ensure that happens). And his current help actually does his laundry. So we are really spoil!

By the way, Tom has only slowly begun to discover my possession in the housekeeping area when we talked about this registry concept.

The only one area that I don’t have plenty of is anything that belongs to the garage!!! Well, my old fashion thinking classifies the house & car maintenance tools as non housekeeping. Don’t ask me why, I don’t really know. I can’t change a tire. So I have membership with AAA. And I don’t have any power tools, I mean like zero. So I live in a newly built house. I think there is a drill there, it belongs to my brother-in-law. I think I have a small set of screw drivers to fix my glasses! I have two standard size screw drivers, one straight and one Phillip for the rare occasion when I need to tighten something up. Oh, I did have a hammer until Tom borrowed it and haven’t returned it. The last nailing was done using my miniature hammer from my scrapbook tools. So that is my current status on that front.

Anyway, the bottom line is we figure by the time we can actually move into a home in the South Bay area (due to the current real estate market and credit conditions), we will most likely looking at a home that is built in the 50’s. Like I said, it is sad sad sad for me. Reality is going to set in quickly. We probably can use stuffs from Home Depot & Lowe’s rather than Macy’s or Target!!!

So we decided to register at Target and Lowe’s. Home Depot currently doesn’t accept online registration. When we visited them in person, their staffs actually told us that their system is really not equipped to handle wedding registry properly. So we did it at Lowe’s instead. (We are supposed to add items onto Lowe’s this weekend.)

To close this, both Tom and I are honored and happy to have you as friends and family. And if you can attend our celebration in person, that is the best gift of all. If not, your best wishes and blessings are the next best thing. Things are just things afterall. We thank you for being part of our life.

And if there is a charity or non-profit organization that is dear to your heart, it is entirely good with us to donate your gift to us in our names. We know we are blessed, especially in this economy down turn.
