It is another heavily overcast day as we arrived at Ketchikan. When we booked the cruise, Tom knew he wanted to go fishing sometime during one of the stops. After reviewing the excursion options, he opted for the fishing to be here in Ketchikan. I decided not to go along with him as I didn’t know what the water condition would be like. So I wasn’t willing to pay big bucks to throw up on a small boat fishing trip…he left early right after we docked. These are shots he took during his outing. It was an experience but he didn't catch any fish. They don't call it "fishing" and not "catching" for no reason...
I went with my family to stroll around town. This is another short stop here, really, not much time to do much of anything. In fact, when the rain started, the kiddies went back onto the cruise ship while I continued my own exploration around town. The town is mainly shopping for the tourist, lots of salmon selection. I bought three cans and they are yummy. Don’t think I have any left now.
I browsed through the Creek Street area, a red light district of the past. Now, all the houses are converted into more souvenir shops. It’s a very cute area with houses along the river running out to sea. There were plenty of salmon at the water inlet trying to up upstream. Something that was very memorable was fishes jumping out of the water down at the nearby marina area. My camera was not fast enough nor do I have the patience to capture a shot. Watching the display just made my day.
I even spent a short time inside the Ketchikan museum. I am fond of all the totem pole public arts around town here. At the end, I had to rush back to the cruise ship before it departed without me!!!
And Tom even arrived later than I did. I was a bit worried. But then I know the cruise ship couldn’t depart without him since he booked the excursion through NCL itself. So I was certain the tour operator had to deliver him safely back in time for our departure.
