Fishing Trip Out of San Diego

While I was away on business trip in Chicago and the Scrapfest, Tom and his fishing buddy, Doug, went on a fishing excursion out of San Diego. They were going for the BIG fish.

They were like little kids, getting so excited, and monitoring the fish count daily prior to the trip. This means every night there is a bit of emotional roller coaster at home as I listened to Tom telling tales of what had been caught by others and reported online.

Then about 2 weeks before the trip, here came the preparation of the gears and all the fishing toys. Retrofit this and that, missing this and that, adding and repairing this and that, a buzzing of activities at night and over the weekends. It is worst than my scrapbooking outing….it is just so funny to watch Tom getting excited over his toys.

On top of this, he anticipated a huge catch, sending me links so I can tell him how much fish we were to keep, to can and, to giveaway etc. It is an expensive hobby, especially when you need to pay someone to clean and prepare it after the catch! Then we worried about freezer space since we only have his refrigerator in the apartment with a tiny freezer. So I arranged for him store some fish at Brenda’s and mom’s if needed. Also, I suggested that he gives some to his neighbors.

They went on the Searcher for two days, about 100 miles out of San Diego. He brought along his little flip video (yes another new toy for the trip). He recorded a lot of HD video during the trip. I just need to find some good ones to post here on the blog.

The fishing trip is a success. He caught over 100 lbs of fish. After processing, I think we probably had 50 lbs of meat. But by the time I returned home a week later, we probably had about 15 lbs left in the freezer. He gave away most of it. You know, without supervising, my dear hubby basically passed them off as quickly as possible so he didn’t have to deal with them!!!! Oh man…I think I got only one package of Mahi Mahi, couple packages of yellowtail, and the rest are yellow fin tuna. I hope all the recipients of the fresh fish enjoyed them as much as I did. But next time, I need to be home to “supervise”….

He even won the 3rd place on the jackpot, a 32 lbs yellowfin tuna. His name is now on the record book for the company website.
