Another year of Scrapfest, I almost couldn’t make it this time. As I already known when I planned, the second half of 2009 is going to be CRAZY, even more whirl winded than 2008 when I was planning the wedding with only 2.5 months.
You already know about unplanned / planned cruise in August, and then came the unexpected move after the immediate sales of the Irvine house toward end of August. My work project for the Carson refinery went into full gear for deployment, yes, 3 weeks of 10+ hours each workday plus the expected resistant from using the new tool, I was going to cancel my own training course in Naperville so I can stay behind another week to take care of the Carson project.
The Scrapfest was booked as a weekend stopover to my training class in Naperville on my way to Chicago. So if I were to cancel the training class, I wouldn’t be going to the Scrapfest either. Fortunately, at the beginning of the 3rd week of deployment, the tide started to turn and the trainees started to see the light at the end of the tunnel…so I didn’t have to cancel after all.
Of course, in order to make the best out of Scrapfest, back in July, I woke up at 5 am one morning to register for the best classes as they would sell out within the first 10 minutes. Plus, Vanessa booked two crops for the weekend; Fancy Pants on Friday night, and Bo Bunny on Saturday night.
I think this is my 4th year attending now. It has become a tradition for Vanessa and me; a bit of catch up time between sisters plus doing our shared interests of scrapbooking. It is really a great combo consider the low cost of travel for me (yes, using miles for the flight + free lodging at Dennis or Vanessa’s + being driven around without a need for rental car).
I already eased off a bit on the agenda with only four registered classes. I initially planned for only one crop but since Vanessa was able to book two crops, I wasn’t going to turn it down (yes, they sold out within the first 5 minutes too). All I did was packed a half empty suitcase and brought the basic tools to Minneapolis, knowing that Vanessa can supply the rest this year. Yes, I was already half worn out from the previous 3 full weeks of intensive days at work. I was planning to take it easy this year at the Scrapfest.
The classes I took are:
(1) Box Full of Love by Creative Imaginations
(2) Bursting with Colors by Making Memories
(3) My Favorite Things Clear Album by Hambly Studios
(4) Twelve Travel Pages by Me & My Big Ideas
As with all the other classes, the intention is not to just complete the project, but rather suppose to enjoy the creative process and suppose to learn something. I think by now, Scrapfest classes are just a bit too easy for me. I am there for the fun and maybe win a few things in the class. The classes are normally worth more than the class fee, so that makes it “value”.
At the crops, I worked on other projects. For the first night, I finished this kit (by K & Company) I had for a while. It is a box full of leaflets of pictures. Of course, I basically flooded the box with tons of embellishment. So fun.
On the second night, I did 3 pages. This first one is by Carrie Elias, which I bought from Pink Pineapple.
These next two pages, I actually made them myself, no page kit, no scraplift, just what were on hands that night. Limited supplies. Not too bad, isn't it.
And here is a picture of the girls at the Bo Bunny Crop on Saturday night.
