Cairo Museum of Egyptian Antiquities

You could spend days here and still wouldn’t see everything, we had 2 hours max.

Our guide was very knowledge. She had a master in Egyptology and spoke fluent English. I would say we totally luck out on this trip. She went inside the museum with us and basically talked at least 1.5 hour on different era and dynasties.

I have heard of the famous Cairo Museum forever. I was surprised that the museum building itself was so unassuming. No worry, they are building a new one on the road to the Great Pyramids. And I am certain that it would be as grand as the rest of the remains and artifacts. The current one has 107 halls. At the ground floor there are the huge statues. The upper floor houses small statues, jewels, Tutankhamon treasures and the mummies.

No one could claim they were disappointed with the collections. It was amazing. I am not one to browse museums after museums. But this one, even though old and could use better lighting, I was in awe by its historical collections and our great narrative on its history and belongings.

The highlight obviously was the King Tut collection. It was extraordinary. The colors of the precious stones along with the gold are striking. The designs of the jewelries are remarkable in details. Unfortunately, we couldn’t bring our cameras inside the museum. So we could only admire it from books or online pictures!
