Khan el-Khalili, once known as the Turkish bazaar during the Ottoman period, is now usually just called the 'Khan'.
We ended our official tour day here at the Khan. It’s the MARKET. And you could spend hours or days here if you like. We didn’t have that much time. It was almost like one of those TV show race, to pack in as much goodies as you could in one hour. There were many varieties, ranging from spices to clothes to furniture to Egyptian craftworks and souvenirs. My siblings were trying to get couple nice inlaid chess sets for the kids since the two eldest nephews are starting their learning in this game.
But even after much bartering, we couldn’t reach an agreement! They were actually cheaper to buy in the US than oversea. This seems to be the pattern in the last decade since you could pretty much get everything you wanted at a cheaper price here in the US. So I normally wouldn’t bother to get stuffs oversea unless I couldn’t get them at home.
