Day 2 was designated for 17 Mile Drive and the famous Pebble Beach …
There was not much to say about it, as it is well known, at least in this part of the world, and as impressive as its description. I loved the white sand beach and the golf courses, roamed by the residential deer. Part of the attraction was a peek into the exclusive lives of the rich and famous. There are other parts of the world that have just as amazing scenery as the Pebble Beach, but it may not have the “exclusive” feel and certainly don’t have the Hollywood celebrities owning homes around there. For example, the Great Ocean Road in Australia with the Twelve Apostles.
We had a perfect day for this eye candy drive. We didn’t prepare properly with a picnic basket. Instead we stopped at the Pebble Beach Market, next to The Lodge at Pebble Beach, for a quick lunch. We had gourmet sandwiches and nice salad, a bit above your typical grocery selection. After all, this was Pebble Beach neighborhood.
After lunch, we strode across the street to The Lodge at Pebble Beach. Tom was gaga eyeballing the players. He checked around the course a bit. He would have dished out the enormous green fee if his friend, Val, was there to play with him. Not so fun when you were by yourself. Instead, we just admired the winner of the US Open. I didn’t know when I booked this vacation, as two weeks later; it was the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach. The next rotation to this place again is 2019. I just missed it; I could have booked it for later and surprised Tom!!!
