Cenoté Zací

After the mid day visit to Chichén Itzá, a stop at Cenote Zací was very refreshing. Today, Cenote Zací is operated as a park. Walking down through a limestone tunnel, a bit fewer than 100 slimy steps led us down to the aquamarine edge of Cenote Zací. Because it was dark and wet, not all of us made it down to the sink hole. There were many visitors already in their swimming trunks diving and swimming in the deep water. Even from far above the cenote, you could see the residential blind fish known as the “Lub”, a black, eyeless fish.

The water was way too deep for me. Tom didn’t get in either even though I thought it would be a great experience for him. So we stood and observed the foreigners working up their courage and egging each other to dive in. Chris brought Makayla down the steps to meet us. But she was too afraid to stand on her own on the wet floor. Besides, there were too many people around, we were afraid someone might accidentally bumped her into the water!
