On Friday morning, we met up with the first agent, showing us Allure, Sky, Turnberry Tower, and Turnberry Place. We found out that she is “new” with the high rise residence market, kind of unfortunate for us.
We don’t want another house to take care. Between Tom’s new gig and my business traveling, we really can’t spare any more time to maintain another residence. We figure a rental unit in one of the concierge high rise will be good for us, at least in the near future. So we have focused in only the high rise properties, preferably a furnished one with decent furniture.
These are from the Allure. It just didn't feel right, we smelled pot when we went into the elevator. And the location is kind of difficult when exiting the building.
Here are some shots from the Sky units. We don't like the balcony made of stucco and blocks out the strip view from the interior when you sit down. What is the point then?
These are from the Turnberry Place. I actually like the residence, but the view was not "good" enough for the hubby. The four towers in front blocks out most of the strip view.
This is the last group of day 1 at the Panorama, across the freeway from Citycenter. We are surprised with the quality of the units. They seems kind of not as "luxury" as the other ones.
Tom has his list of criteria. Of course, by now, I should have known the hubby is once again looking for a place with a view. There isn’t any ocean or water view here. But there is the mountain and strip view. My gosh; you might think we are buying a place instead of renting; he can be MAJORLY picky with a view. Our final decision is the Veer tower in the newly opened Citycenter.
In addition, I want to be able to walk around once I am down on the ground. There aren’t that many building within walking distance that looks “safe to be around”. Because of the two factors, we basically ruled out all other buildings in town except Turnberry Towers, Veer, and the Mandarin Oriental. And we don’t want to be next door to the partying crowd, like at the Panorama and the Palms Place. Those are party central with young and need-to-look-and-be-impressed crowd. And this is Las Vegas, so there are other undesirable elements that come with the territory we want to avoid.
The second day, we spent with a different agent who actually lives in the Veer. Well, she told us she knows all about Veer. NOT….after we asked her multiple times if she had any other privately owned units to show us, she kept telling us this was hot hot property and there wasn’t anything else in our criteria that is available. Well, I found one on my own that evening on the web…I guess I can be an agent myself, why do I need to depend on these people? And I don’t even need training to find it on the MLS!
Anyway, the positive conclusion from Saturday touring is we do want to rent at the Veer. The building is unique. If we can find a 1B corner unit with decent view and at a reasonable rent, we will satisfy our criteria.
So on Sunday, we hooked up with a third agent to show us this property, #2308, a corner unit. This unfurnished unit has a view of the Bellagio fountains and the strip. The Harmon blocks a bit but not too badly, once it is demolished due to failed inspection, it would be great! Read the latest on Harmon here. The Veer unit is about 909 sqft. But it has a funky floor plan; we are pounding whether a standard size sofa would even fit right. Since the Veer is designed to lean at an angle, there are couple major columns inside the unit, wasted space big time. So we shall see. The hubby needs a few days to let this sink in.
In the meantime, I get daily report from him regarding the Veer rental market. Not a done deal yet, he is hoping other corner units will show up soon before we must sign the dotted line for a 1 year lease!!!
I forgot to take pictures of #2308. And there are plenty of information on the Citycenter website for the amenities, so no need to do my own reporting until we actually move in.
