As with any good meeting, an entertainment event should be scheduled for the attendees. For this week, we planned an outing to Delft. Delft is an old city, actually, all the European cities are old, who am I kidding?
I have been to Delft twice before, so it wasn’t anything new for me this round. I can orient myself pretty easily. It is still lovely to visit. Of course, by the time we got there, after a 1.5 hour traffic delay (you think LA is bad, this was supposed to be a 20 minutes drive), all the shops are closed. We had a college student guide giving us a brief 1-hour walking tour around the old town. I did better on my own in last trip during one of the weekend stay. Therefore, as others were attentively listening to her, I wandered around to take in a few snapshots here and there, yes, the same streets and same canals. In the slide show below, some of the pictures are from previous years. But really, who can tell. Nothing really changes here, except putting up more restoration work??
For dinner, we went back to a French restaurant we previously dined at, Restaurant Le Vieux Jean. This time, we had a private room. To start, we were left to mingle among ourselves in the restaurant wine cellar while drinks and complementary starter were served. Not really sure what they are. One is foie gras, the other one is some kind of green mousse….that is as far a culinary term as I can come up!!!
The pre-selected meal was as great as a la carte, considering they had to serve 15 of us. Of course, the wine pairing is just as excellent as the meal itself. Yes, I had fun. And yes, I was the only person taking photos of the food. I bet they all can appreciate the details once I posted to my colleagues.
