Spijkenisse

We had a few more hours of daylight during this time of the year in the Netherlands. After unloading our luggage, we decided to wander around the small town of Spijkenisse. There wasn’t much going on. It was Sunday. Even the grocery stores are closed on Sunday. I would have a difficult time living here since I work full time during the week. It is pretty amazing to understand how the local can operate that way. I guess it is what one gets use to???

Why did we stay there? Well, it is the closest town to the refinery we are visiting. Rotterdam would make it a half hour commute each way if no traffic. During rush hour, it is worse. From Spijkenisse, it is about 25 minutes even during "rush" hour!

I try to find something exceptional to talk about the town. I can't come up with much. It is charming and quiet. Anyway, here are some pictures of the town and the restaurant we dined at. I have been to this restaurant once before in previous trips. Accidentally, I ran into it again. It is t’Ganzengors. The outside doesn’t look like much, but the interior is very stylish. And they don’t have a menu translated to English. So the nice restaurant host ran through the entire menu for my colleague and me!

Complimentary appetizer: Sausage and roasted tomato skewer
Tuna, local shrimp, and avocado salad
Monk fish with braised white asparagus
