It may not be common among the western culture. It is nice to think one can pass the wedding dress from mother to daughter. The reality is (1) you have to have a daughter first, (2) you also assuming the daughter would like your taste (3) that is really a long time away. So I decided to rent one if I can find a nice one. With rental, all the alteration is included. Plus I can get the veil and the accessories all in one place.
There are two areas I visited: (1) San Gabriel and (2) Korean town in LA. During the first trip, Brenda and I visited 4 stores. I probably tried on over 10 dresses. I was still pregnant and tired. And there wasn’t much of a waistline in sight on my body. It was getting a bit depressing.
We did find a vintage Chinese wedding gown that would fit me. So I rent that one too for the tea ceremony at home in the morning of the wedding day.
On the second trip, Barbie and I went to Korean Town in LA. And here I tried on another 5 dresses or so. By now, I just want to make a decision! Anyway, I did narrow down to three dresses.
I am going to hold off from telling you which dress I chose. I got to keep a bit of surprise for the wedding day, just in case Tom is reading this blog.
