The Twilight Saga

I finally finished all four volumes of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series. I didn’t pay attention to it until the first movie “Twilight” came out. Tom and I were at the Irvine Spectrum one day and saw a long line of people waiting to get into the theater for this movie. I don’t really understand such passion, just like I still don’t understand why one would wait outside a Barnes & Noble for a release of the latest Harry Potter book.

During the Alaska cruise, I took the first volume with me. Wow, I finished it quickly, even among all the other things I wanted to do and read. Then I moved onto New Moon, and then Eclipse on all those cold nights up in WA, and finally the last volume Breaking Dawn. I still recall the perfect setting for this series. One evening on my return drive from Bellingham to SEA-TAC, the heavy fog set in among the mountain and cold mist at dusk, the aha moment, I finally understand why a vampire would choose such setting and location in the Pacific Northwest to call home.

Yes, I laugh at myself too. I enjoy fictions all my life. Early on, it became a habit to read a bit in bed just before falling to sleep (probably the reason for my poor eyesight). I don’t think I ever actually fell to sleep with a book in hand. When I get tired, I would just close the book and shut off the light. It is like I couldn’t sleep with “unfinished” business.

The other funny thing is that I would remember the storyline and where I left off as long as I haven’t finished the book, even when I have multiple books going at the same time (yes, I do read multiple books at a time). Once it is done, it is out of my mind and within a short time I would forget the storyline. I think of it like temporary memory storage space. Once it is completed, the cache is released for new task. Very strange.
